You might think that one of the perks of spending time indoors would be developing rejuvenated glowing skin. Staying home requires little to no makeup at all and your skin is protected from being exposed to outdoor pollutants. It seems like a good time for your skin to heal, but many have found themselves experiencing irrational breakouts instead.
One thing is for sure — you are not alone. Believe it or not, the shift in our day-to-day life can greatly affect our skin condition.

1. Change of environment
Although we live in a tropical climate, most of us embrace the indoors and tend to lounge in our stuffy homes for prolonged periods. As much as there are outdoor pollutants, there are also indoor pollutants that can negatively affect our skin. The uncirculated air that contains dust contributes to the beginning signs of a breakout waiting to happen.
2. Stress
Stress can actually take a physical toll on your skin. A hormone called cortisol is released when under pressure, which may cause inflammation and excess sebum production that may explain your skin breaking out. Moreover, the side effects of stress include lack of sleep, loss of appetite, and binge-eating snacks more than usual, all of which can damage your skin in the long run.
3. Lifestyle change
A lifestyle change has an effect on your body and your beauty regime choices. Some of us are guilty of rolling straight out of bed and diving into work immediately, which delays or even reduces our shower time. Some even skimp on their skincare routine thinking that being at home means lesser maintenance.

Too little or too much of anything can be detrimental. The flexibility of working according to your timing creates a schedule that will promote a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Set a time for yourself to eat, get up and stretch, exercise, and even wash your face. Find out what works best for you and stick to it.
3. Hydration is key
This cannot be stressed enough. We need to replenish the water we lose especially when we are living in a hot and humid climate. Water helps flush out toxins, regulate body temperature, and helps absorb nutrients, all of which are beneficial for your skin.
4. Keep it simple
You may be tempted to try out the latest face mask hack or to constantly engage in bad skin habits such as excessive tweezing, plucking, and picking, but be patient. Using too many products could be the problem. Trying out too many things at once may aggravate your skin. Let it heal by simply letting your skin be.
Some of us may experience anxiety when our skin condition has taken a turn for the worse. Fret not. Understand that breakouts and flare-ups are normal; many struggle with it as do you. The best thing to do right now is to show yourself some love and kindness by giving yourself time to heal.
